Fall Diffuser Blends

Oct 19, 2020

While we’re on the fall train, I want to let you guys in on two of my all time favorite things in the history of ever that both individually bring me so much joy, that the combination of the two just melts my heart into a pumpkin shaped puddle and instantly zaps my every last worry in the world.

(drum roll please….!)

Fall Scents + Essential Oils!

I love essential oils every time of the year, but there is something about the fall scents that make this time even more magical.

First, a little review on essential oils, how they work, and why they are so effective.

When we inhale the aromatic compounds of essential oils, they are sensed by the olfactory cells that lie on the roof of the nasal cavity.  These olfactory cells are specialized nerve cells that send signals to the olfactory bulb.  The olfactory bulb then sends those impulses to the different structures in the brain that make up the limbic system, which includes:

  • the amygdala (where we store and release emotional trauma),

  • the hippocampus (the long-term memory center of the brain),

  • the hypothalamus (your autonomic nervous system and hormone center),

  • and the cingulate gyrus (regulates your blood pressure, heart rate, and attention).

BECAUSE THE OLFACTORY SYSTEM IS SO CLOSELY CONNECTED TO YOUR LIMBIC BRAIN, ESSENTIAL OILS ARE ABLE TO ELICIT PROFOUND PHYSIOLOGICAL AND PSYCHOLOGICAL EFFECTS ON THE BODY

Some essential oils that I associate with fall are:

Arborvitae

Black Spruce

Cardamom

Cassia

Cedarwood

Cinnamon

Clove

Cypress

Douglas Fir

Frankincense

Ginger

Myrrh

Patchouli

Sandalwood

Siberian Fir

Vetiver

Wild Orange

The rules are there are no rules for creating your own diffuser blends!  I suggest choosing some of your favorite oils and creating your own recipes.

Some oils are extremely fragrant and only require one drop (like cinnamon and arborvitae).  I love the balance of earthy fragrance and a bit of bite.  The firs can get a bit Christmas-ey (plenty of time for that in a couple months!), but when they are balanced with the woodsy scents of say cedarwood and patchouli, the vibe definitely takes on more witchy magic than deck the halls.

Here are some of my favorite blends to enjoy in the beautiful fall time!
