You know how everyone is talking about green smoothies, and getting more greens into their life?
Well that’s because greens are amazing and they provide a powerful punch of micronutrients and chlorophyll into your diet.
Most of us are deficient in many essential micronutrients because our poor soil is depleted, so therefore the fruits and veggies we eat now have fewer minerals than they used to.
Smoothies are so super awesome because they are an easy, quick way to front load your day with tons of vitamins and minerals.
Smoothies can provide a ton of nutrition in one meal.
Don’t obsess over the calories. High quality nutrition will always be more important than the number of calories in your smoothie. Who cares if you’re getting 500 calories in your green smoothie if every single component of said smoothie provides your body with tons of vitamins/minerals/micronutrients?!
Here is a very simple green smoothie recipe that is my go to when I want to get some extra vitamins and minerals into my day.
Emily's Insanely Easy Green Smoothie Recipe
- 1/2 bunch of flat leaf parsley
- 1/2 avocado
- handful of spinach/chard/watercress/bok choy/whatever is in the fridge
- 1 green apple
- 1 lemon with the yellow rind potato peeled off (but the white pith still intact — so many nutrients and fiber in the pith!)
- 1/2 inch nub of ginger, or 1/2 tsp ground ginger powder
- 1 tsp greens mix powder (I like this one and this one)
- filtered water for desired consistency
Blend and enjoy!!
You can do a green juice with all of the above ingredients (except the avocado), but I personally prefer smoothies because of the fiber content, and they are more filling to me than a juice. I do love a good green juice though!
