I Love You So Matcha!

Apr 10, 2021

 Match(a) maker, Match(a) maker, make meeee a match(a), find me a find, catch me a catch …..

Mrs. Doubtfire?? Anyone else?? When Robin Williams was at his brother’s house getting all his gear to transform into Mrs. Doubtfire?! Watching it now as an adult, I NEVER realized back in the 90s when I first saw it how NAUGHTY it was!! So many dirty jokes went over my head. Probably should question the adults who allowed me to watch it when I was 8… lol

Anyway, MATCHA. Game changer. An entirely new experience of tea with so many health benefits I can’t see straight.

Matcha is the whole green tea leaf, ground into a fine powder then combined with hot water to be consumed as tea. Green tea as we know it are individual tea leaves in a sachet that we then seep in hot water. With matcha, you are consuming the whole green tea leaf. This makes it more potent than regular green tea, higher in antioxidants, polyphenols, the amino acid l-theanine, vitamins and other minerals.

L-theanine is super calming to the mind. Matcha does contain more caffeine than traditional green tea, so be mindful of this. Consume it in the morning to avoid disrupted sleep.

Zen monks for centuries have been known to consume matcha tea for it’s abilities to provide intense focus, mental stamina and clarity during hours long periods of intense meditation. Energetically, matcha connects you with spirit and helps you hone your intuitive wisdom.

Matcha Latte

  • 1 cup non dairy milk of choice

  • 1 tsp organic matcha green tea (please use ceremonial grade!)

  • 1 tsp MCT oil

  • 1 scoop collagen peptides (I like Vital Proteins, both the bovine and marine-based)

  • 1 TBS hemp seeds

  • 1 date OR a tsp of honey (optional)

Heat all ingredients on the stove top (do not boil!).

Throw everything in your nutribullet or vitamix, pulse til smooth, and enjoy hot or serve over ice if you would like it chilled.

I like this recipe because it isn’t just a straight shot of caffeine like it would be if you just mixed matcha with water.

It contains fat from the milk, fat from the MCT oil, protein from the collagen peptides, protein from the hemp seeds, and gives you a little hint of sweetness so it feels like a treat. I try to stay away from caffeine as much as I can, and the ONLY way I consume caffeine now is in the presence of protein and fat, in order to mitigate the effects of caffeine on my hormones.
