Is Your Life A Source Of Nourishment?

healing joy stress surrender Aug 22, 2025

We hear the word "nourishment" and most of us immediately go to food.

We think of food as thee source of nourishment for our bodies.

Maybe we think of the protein that builds our muscles and bodily structures, and the carbs as provide us with energy, and the fats that lovingly lubricate each of our 40 quadrillion cells.

We think that if we are eating food, we are nourished.

But nourishment is SO much more than that.

My ethos as a nutritionist and educator is that your life should absolutely nourish you.

Yes, duh, food is nourishing, and is absolutely a source of nourishment.

But I also go way deeper with clients in identifying the bits of and pieces of their lives that do serve as sources of nourishment, and those that do not.

A few things that come to mind when exploring this topic of deep, soul, life source nourishment ...

Your intimate relationship.

Your career.

Your home life.

Where you live.

Your friendships.

Your hobbies.

Your creative endeavors.

Your connection to nature.

Your relationship to God / Source / the Universe / Everything That Ever Was And Ever Will Be

We can be THEE most well-fed and seemingly nourished gals in the world --

Eating all the sexy, grass fed and finished, blessed under the Tuscan Sun animal products,

Consuming the most expensive raw dairy from the happiest cows on the planet,

Eating only thee most ethically sourced and sustainably raised and caught seafood,

And buying the most bio-hackable bank-breaking magical potions from our favorite authors / influencers / OG IG people...

But if we are not LIVING in a way that is ALSO just as nourishing...

In a way that is also just as life-giving,

In a way that is also just as nervous system restoring,

In a way that is also just as healing and soothing and regenerative,

In a way that is also just as peaceful and inspiring

In a way that is also just as JOY-FILLED ...

Well then, we have completely missed the mark.

We cannot only look to our plates as our sole source of nourishment.

We cannot disregard the gaping holes in our lives that are energy sucks, time sucks, and depressing, life-zapping sinkholes that are likely detrimentally impacting our health in far more insidious ways than we realize.

There are some occasions where I see a nutrition client, and we literally do not even talk about nutrition for one moment of our time together. We discuss EVERYTHING ELSE that is impacting their health. These are often the people who are taking all the "right" supplements, who are eating all the "right" things, who are spinning their wheels and going nowhere despite great effort.

Just as you cannot supplement your way out of an unhealthy diet, you cannot eat or supplement your way out of a life that is draining you, that is not calling forth your best.

This is the hard work.

This is the uncomfortable work.

This is the down in the trenches, get super freaking honest with yourself about what is working and what isn't working in your most intimate, most close-knit, most ride or die relationships work.

This is the stuff that matters far more than eating all the healthy foods and taking all the fancy schmancy supplements.

Life Nourishment Food For Thought

My questions to you today are these:

How is your life, beyond your plate, nourishing you?

What areas could use more focused awareness?

What in your life needs to change / shift in order for you to fully thrive?

Which area in your life are you afraid to look deeply at?

How would it feel to be nourished on every single level of your life?

What feels like its weighing you down?

What keeps you awake at night?

When we start healing the physical body through high quality, nutritionally dense foods, we find that we have more bandwidth to access the more abstract, beneath the surface, subtle areas of our lives that need healing. This is the harder work. But it is the most important work.

Yours In Abundant Health,

Xoxo

Emily 😊
